Hi Lori: Thank you for your quick response back to me, regarding my address change. I have been so happy with Life Abundance kitten and cat food for my Nilla, Nilla is a 9 year old Rag Doll who developed IBS (per her vet). Her Vet introduced her to a cat food of theirs and it was working but was very expensive. I found a link to Lifes Abundance via my puppys breeder and ordered a bag, when I received the bag it was bigger than I expected and half the price of a smaller bag that the Vet was selling me. It has been two weeks and I have noticed a huge difference in Nillas appearance, she is not vomiting as much any more and she has lost the rash on her body. Dog Food Recall Expanded After Salmonella Outbreak According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 14 people — including one from Connecticut — have contracted Salmonella that was linked to exposure to the dry food, at least five of whom required hospitalization. A dry dog food recall is in effect following an outbreak of Salmonella infections reportedly linked to products made by Diamond Pet Foods. The CDC has reportedly linked the contamination multiple brands of dog food produced at Diamond Pet Food’s plant in Gaston, SC. At least 12 brands of dry dog food are affected, and of those only certain lots, or batches, are being recalled on a voluntary basis, according to reports on injuryboard.com and Food Safety News. The dog food sickened people in nine states including Connecticut, Alabama, Michigan, Missouri, North Carolina, New Jersey, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Virginia, between October 2011 and April 22, according to the CDC report. No pet illnesses have been reported. People can contract the illness by failing to wash their hands after handling the dry food or after handling their pet while it is sick. As reported in Warminster (Pa.) Patch on May 3, Diamond recently expanded the voluntary recall to include one production run and four production codes of Chicken Soup for the Pet Lover’s Soul Adult Light formula dry dog food. I posted in December 2011 that my cat suddenly became ill after eating Purina Kit & Kaboodle cat food. She had been eating that food for 8 years, oddly, a new bag (new batch) nearly took her life. She became lethargic, threw up, stopped eating, stopped drinking, and I had to make an emergency trip to a vet. Blood work, stool testing, physical exam, antibiotics, N/V drops, SC fluids were given, and Purina cat food removed from her diet. I'm lucky my cat lived, as I've read all the horrible stories of those that lost their beloved pets. My heart goes out to you all.

I contacted Purina within 24 hrs of the vet trip, and was told no complaints had been made. I spent the past 2 1/2 months with phone calls with Purina, sent them a sample of the food to test, and released my cat's vet records to them. I was informed that "nothing was detected in the food upon a visual inspection and microscopic look for mold". No chemical testing was performed on food and I was told they don't do that, but I could at my own expense. Again, Purina stated that they haven't received any other complaints made to them on Kit & Kaboodle cat food, and explained that there is any "proof" that the food caused my cat's near-death experience. In the next breath, Purina representative made me an offer to pay half of the vet bill expense incurred from the experience if I'd close my case.

In closing, I want you all to know that with every phone call I made to Purina I informed them of this website and the other complaints posted here. Each time they said they don't use this site, and that the postings I informed them about could be viewed by Purina Company as slanderous. I did my best to be making Purina aware of the problem with the cat food, but have learned the sad truth, nothing will become of our complaints. No recall is being made as there isn't any proof or evidence with the food. I don't know what else I can do except move on from this now. It's a sad situation and has caused a lot of pain to innocent pets, loving family members, and to the pet owners. I wish I could have done more, and worry about others going through this. Please know I will keep all of you in my thoughts and prayers.
